The Library is a central part of the academic life of the College and Caius is fortunate to possess one of the largest and best-stocked college libraries.

The Library is housed in the Cockerell Building, which is open to students from 7am to 1am daily, with Library staff present on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. The building is also equipped with a lift and chair-lift facilities for disabled access to all areas of the Library, with the exception of the galleries. Currently holding around 60,000 items with over a thousand books added to the collection each year, the Library is able to offer a generous borrowing policy of up to 30 items per person for the length of one term or vacation. All students also have access to a wide range of electronic resources including online databases, electronic journals and ebooks via the Cambridge Libraries catalogue .

In addition to academic books, journals and reference works the Library also holds contemporary fiction, performance scores, examination papers, scientific models, music CDs and DVDs. A student computer room is conveniently located in the basement of the Cockerell Building.

Students are encouraged to make book recommendations for the Library to ensure the Library collections meet their study requirements, especially in areas of the Tripos which are under-represented.

Caius students are also granted research access to the Library’s of over 26,000 rare books and manuscripts, and pop up exhibitions are held during term where students and their guests are able to browse highlights from these collections.
