Officers Herrick and Youngers of 's University Police Department, and student intern Jillian Mitchell ‘25, were recently honored by the SUNY Police Chiefs Association in Albany.

Herrick and Youngers received the Life Saving Award for their efforts during an April 2025 call. Herrick and Youngers applied life-saving tourniquets to a student who suffered severe lacerations and blood loss from an accident that occurred in the Merritt Athletic Center. Herrick and Youngers were supported on the call by Lieutenant Tomaszewski and Officer Richenberg until assistance from student-run Geneseo First Response and Livingston County EMS arrived at the scene.

In his nomination of Herrick and Youngers, Lieutenant LoPiano said the officers’ actions while tending to the incident “exemplify the highest standards of emergency response, compassion, and teamwork.”
