Sociology Alumni

When I arrived at Geneseo, I knew my overall goal was to become a therapist. I was not sure of the path I needed to take in order to reach this goal and found myself as a psychology major my Freshman year. After taking a few Sociology classes; learning and understanding the perspective of focusing on groups of people as a whole, I found myself wanting to understand the way people interact with one another on an individual and community level. Sociology at Geneseo gave me a foundation to build off of in understanding social interactions and how social structures and institutions shape human behavior. After my time at Geneseo, I was accepted to an MSW at SUNY Albany where I developed clinical skills to apply in therapeutic settings. Today, I am a Licensed Masters Social Worker working in a non-profit organization as a mental health clinician with adolescents with severe mental illness.
