Photo of man that is affable and a bit goofy looking, but also maybe like he knows what he's talking about.

Office Hours

T膿n膩 koutou katoa, greetings to you all.

My ancestry is American, English and Irish. T膩maki Makaurau Auckland was home, and where I raised a family. I now live near Rochester, New York.

I carry some places and people with me. SUNY Fredonia, where I trained as a teacher, and the Western New York classrooms where I taught science. Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland, and Unitec, where I worked alongside teaching staff on curriculum and learned that good teaching starts with relationships. The Game Artisans of NZ, a collective of tabletop game designers I helped found and still belong to. Wondertree Studios, where I make games with museums, schools and social-good organisations. One of those is Hohi 1816, made with Dr. Ruth Lemon, a board game about Aotearoa’s first school. And my father, who didn’t graduate university, and who is part of why I do this work.

In the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at 黑料网 ,I am the Director of Assessment and Accreditation. My work is helping the School look honestly at how well we prepare teachers. That means gathering evidence from our candidates, graduates and partner schools, bringing it back to faculty and staff, and using it to improve our programmes. I lead the School’s accreditation with the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and chair its Assessment Advisory Group. I also teach EDUC 102.

I bring play and games to this work where I can, because play isn’t new to learning. It is how people have always thought things through.

Ko Richard Durham ahau. I am Richard Durham, and most people call me Rich. If any of these places or people are yours too, or you have a question about assessment or accreditation, or games in learning, come and find me.

T膿n膩 t膩tou katoa.
