One of the biggest questions many first-year students face is, “What should I major in?” or “What career is right for me?” The Focus 2 Career Assessment helps students answer these questions by providing personalized information about their interests, values, personality, skills, and career preferences. Completing the assessment early in college allows students to make more informed decisions about their education and career path while building the career readiness skills employers value.

What is the Focus 2 Career Assessment?

Focus 2 is an interactive online career and education planning system designed specifically for college students. Students explore multiple areas of self-awareness, including:

• Work interests
• Personality traits
• Values
• Skills
• Leisure interests
• Preferred work environment

Based on their responses, Focus 2 suggests academic majors and occupations that align with their unique profile. Students can then explore detailed information about careers, educational requirements, salary expectations, employment outlook, and pathways to achieve their goals.

What Will Students Gain?

After completing Focus 2, students receive personalized career planning resources they can use throughout their college experience.

Students will:

• Develop greater self-awareness about their interests, values, skills, and personality.
• Explore career options that fit their unique profile.
• Learn about academic majors connected to different careers.
• Research salary information, job outlook, and educational requirements.
• Identify career pathways and next steps.
• Feel more confident discussing career goals with advisors, faculty, and career coaches.

Focus 2 is not intended to provide one “right” answer. Instead, it gives students reliable information that helps them narrow options, ask better questions, and make informed decisions throughout college.

Instructions to Complete Focus 2

• Enter the .

• Type in the access code 鈥渒night鈥� and complete your registration.
• Complete the following 5 self assessments within Focus 2:
  • Work Interest Assessment
  • Values Assessment
  • Personality Assessment
  • Leisure Assessment
  • Skills Assessment
• Look at the results for each individual assessment above and also try combining your results to see occupations and majors that match multiple assessments. Remember to save any majors and occupations of interest!
• Focus 2 is self鈥損aced and does not have to be done at one time. You can log back in at any time.

First-Year Milestones Submission Instructions

1. Complete the . 
2. Include a PDF of your Summary Report that includes the results from the 5 self assessments that you took and any saved majors and occupations. Use the “My Summary Report” feature in Focus 2 to build this report.
3. Respond to the following reflection question. Please keep your response to about one paragraph, 100-200 words.
   What is one career or academic area you discovered through Focus 2 that you would like to explore further? What is one action you can take to continue exploring the majors or careers identified through your results?
4. Your submission will be reviewed, and you will receive a notification once the milestone has been approved.
