First-Year Career Milestones – Attend a Quick Chat
Why it matters
A Quick Chat is a drop in appointment with one of the Career Design Center staff. Students who take advantage of quick chats often come to discuss:
- Major and career exploration
- Designing career plans
- Strategies to gain experience while in college
- Learning about career readiness skills
- Seeking potential internship and job opportunities, including part-time employment on or off campus
- Job search assistance – resumes, cover letters, and interviewing skill prep
- Making connections with alumni and potential employers in their field
- Selecting and applying to graduate school
Attending a Quick Chat helps you establish a strong foundation for your career development from your very first year on campus. By meeting with a career coach early, you’ll learn about opportunities and create a plan that will help you make the most of your time at Geneseo.
Instructions
- To attend a Quick Chat, please visit the Career Design Center located in Erwin Hall 116. Quick Chats are held Monday-Friday from 12-2 pm and are first-come, first serve appointments. These are drop in, in person meetings, with the last appointment starting at 1:45 PM.
- Take a few minutes before your Quick Chat to think about what you hope to learn or accomplish, whether it’s exploring careers, reviewing your resume, or finding an internship. The more specific your questions, the more personalized guidance you’ll receive.
- When you arrive at the Career Design Center, sign in at the kiosk. This will alert the staff member on duty that you are here. When the Career Coach is free, they’ll come and welcome you back to their office.Â
First-Year Milestones Submission Instructions

- Indicate the date of your Quick Chat, who you met with, and one action you plan to take as a result of your Quick Chat.
- Respond to the following reflection question. Please keep your response to about one paragraph, 100-200 words.
What did you learn during your Quick Chat that you didn’t know before? How will it help you moving forward? - Your submission will be reviewed, and you will receive a notification once the milestone has been approved.
