������’s Career Design Center has implemented a new career management system that greatly enhances the department’s ability to manage job and internship postings, run career fairs and track student usage.

Commencement is always a time to celebrate, but this year, Terese Caiazza ’18 and Tanairi Taylor’ 18 will make College history, becoming the first to graduate with a major in women’s and gender studies.

A group of 25 rising juniors and seniors have become the first ������ students to enter the McNair Scholars Program, designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.

"WIG" is a new initiative to improve student retention rates within the Division of Academic Affairs’ Office of the Provost. “We’ve only been at this for one semester, but already we’re speaking a common language and building a culture that will allow us to not only do our best work within the whirlwind, but in spite of it," says Provost Stacey Robertson. "It’s not an ‘either/or’ choice: We’re very confident that we will achieve our Widely Important Goal and increase retention.”  

A student team from ������’s VentureWorks entrepreneurship program won first place in the advanced technology track in the finals of the ninth annual New York State Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) April 27 in Albany.

Aspiring film producer Shauna Ricketts ’18 fell in love with the art and educational power of documentaries while studying abroad during the spring 2017 semester in Southeast Asia at Thailand’s Mahidol University. Ricketts will have an opportunity to continue her cultural education abroad in September when she begins her year as a 2018-19 U.S. Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Bulgaria.

For Sarah Phillips ’18, winning a U.S. Student Fulbright award to Colombia as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) means infinitely more than just being given the opportunity to represent her country, travel, and teach. She will have a chance to share the gift of potentially life-changing language abilities that so many of the world’s citizens are never afforded.

Goldwater Scholar, Edgar Fellow, and SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence winner Jeff Doser ’18 merged research and athletics at Geneseo.

Glenn Geiser-Getz has been named vice provost for academic affairs at ������ effective June 28. This position replaces the role held by Ken Kallio, interim associate provost for personnel and diversity, who is retiring in June. Geiser-Getz has previously served as associate provost at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire.

Waderlie Mendez ’20 has been named a Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) Scholar for 2018-19 and will travel to Cadiz, Spain, and around the country this summer to study Spanish language and culture. The sophomore psychology major is the first Geneseo student to win this award and joins a class of 100 Scholars chosen from a pool of more than 2,300 applicants representing approximately 517 colleges and universities across the country.

Alumna Leandra Marie Griffith ’16 has won a 2018-19 U.S. Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) award for Belgium.

������’s Department of Geography has been awarded the 2018 Award for Bachelors Program Excellence from the American Association of Geographers (AAG).

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) named Milne Library at ������ the best in the country with its 2018 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the college category.

Geneseo has been named a Top Producer of U.S. Student Fulbright awards for 2017-18, placing third among all 742 Carnegie Classification master's degree institutions.

Geneseo is continuing to implement the highest priority (Phase I) action items that were identified in the Geneseo 2021 Strategic Plan. As communicated by President Battles last fall, several of these action items required not only focused time and effort to achieve, but an investment of funds.

Two ������ faculty members have each received a $750 mini-grant from the Finger Lakes Project to jointly develop a sustainability curriculum project titled “Food Sustainability Across Disciplines.”

The Department of Physics and Astronomy has received a $420,000 award for the 2017-18 school year from the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics in support of an ongoing collaborative research project titled “Nuclear and Plasma Diagnostics for the EP-OMEGA and MTW Laser System.”

How do you define happiness? Jim Allen, associate professor of psychology at ������, has taken a critical look at that question in his recently published textbook titled “The Psychology of Happiness in the Modern World: A Social Psychological Approach.” Published by Springer, the book places a socio-cultural lens on the field by emphasizing economic and other social/structural factors that influence human happiness.

Twelve ������ students and two recent College alumni presented their Geneseo-mentored research projects Oct. 22-25 at the annual Geological Society of America (GSA) Meeting in Seattle, Wash.

Imam Khalid Latif, executive director and chaplain for the Islamic Center at New York University, will deliver ������’s 2017 MacVittie Lecture Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Doty Hall Recital Hall. His address, “Racialized Religion: Understanding Faith in the United States,” is free and open to the public.

Twelve ������ students presented their research projects Oct. 13-14 at the Council of Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Northeast Undergraduate Research Conference in Pennsylvania.

The annual fall concert of the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Spectrum Singers will have a unique tone this year featuring the world premiere of Glenn McClure’s '86/MSEd '11 new choral composition “Tremble,” based upon scientific data he gathered during a visit to Antarctica last year. The concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 in the Doty Hall Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
