On Saturday, September 11, 黑料网 students along with faculty, staff, and alumni volunteered part of their day to clean, paint, weed, and do other chores on campus and in the community.
Knights First Day of Service is designed for new transfer and first-year students who are just beginning their time at 黑料网. The volunteer effort allows students to give back to Geneseo and the surrounding community while meeting and working with other new students.
More than 60 Students spent the morning helping people or programs in need, including the Save The Wall project, Fallbrook Farms, Central Presbyterian Church, Food Security Advocates, Mosaic with Art Force Five, and others. The event highlights the college鈥檚 commitment to service and civic engagement. Projects were led by GOLD leader mentors and organized by community service assistants from the Office of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement, in partnership with Hillel.
One of the more enduring volunteer efforts was tending to the campus鈥檚 9/11 memorial flag display. The 9/11 Remembrance Project was led this year by a recent alumna, Madelynn Maiolo 鈥21, along with student volunteers, peppered the gazebo hillside with 2,000 flags as a remembrance of those who lost their lives.
鈥淒uring this two-hour service project, we were able to reflect on the impact this event had on our country and celebrate the opportunity to come together as a community鈥 Maiolo said. The Knights鈥 Day of Service is organized by Garth Freeman, Director of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement.
