Building experience by trying out new things is essential as you navigate your career journey. Hands-on experiences help you learn more about yourself and the world of work, build important skills, and shape your future opportunities. These activities are designed to help you engage with the campus and local community and build meaningful experiences that will help you decide what is most important to you in the future.

Complete at least one of the following Try Something Out milestones during your first year. 

• Attend a Signature Career Event
  Attending one of the Career Design Center’s signature in person events on campus will provide you with a space to learn about a range of internship, job, and community engagement opportunities in addition to the opportunity to network with employers and alumni. By attending these events as a first-year student, you will learn what they entail and build experience to approach these opportunities with more confidence each time you attend.
• Find a Part Time Job 
  In addition to the obvious benefit of earning money while you attend school, working is an important way to build experience and transferable skills for future opportunities that you hope to pursue.
• Participate in Volunteer Work or Community Service 
  Make a difference by doing meaningful work in the local community. Volunteer work and community service helps you build skills that are valued by employers regardless of the career path you choose.
• Join a Club or Organization
  Joining a club or organization provides you with an important sense of belonging within your new campus community. Participation in clubs and organizations can also naturally develop into leadership opportunities over time which is a skill employers value highly.
